Is Meghalaya a Safe Place to Visit?

How To Reach?

Meghalaya can be reached via Guwahati and mostly tourists and travelers travel the Guwahati-Shillong route to visit Shillong and nearby places for tourism and official purposes. Shillong is the capital city of Meghalaya. Shillong is most likely the starting point of a trip to Meghalaya.

Basically, there are two ways to reach:

  1. Train: The nearest railway station is Guwahati and wherever your location is, you can easily get the train to Guwahati. The road from Guwahati takes 2:30 to 3 hours to reach.
  2. Flight: For flights, there are two options:                                                                                                             a)  Guwahati Airport: Guwahati can be easily reached by flight, technically from any airport. It takes approximately 2-3hours to drive from Guwahati Airport to Shillong City.                                                             b)  Shillong Airport: The nearest airport is the Umroi Airport which is 31 km away from Shillong in Meghalaya.

You can travel to Shillong through various means either by Bus or by booking a Guwahati to Shillong Taxi with a reliable taxi service provider in order to make the journey much easier.

  • By Bus: There are buses from Guwahati ISBT that will drop you to Shillong. While the journey on a bus is quite hectic, you won't find it relaxing while it passes through hilly regions.
  • By Shared Taxi: While a shared taxi is more comfortable than a bus, but the experience will still be average and you won't be able to stop anywhere except at Nongpoh for refreshment.
  • By Booking an entire Taxi: For tourists, it is the most convenient way to travel from Guwahati to Shillong. With a Guwahati to Shillong Taxi, you can enjoy the ride as you will be able to stop at stunning scenic spots like Umiam Lake viewpoint while traveling.
